Safe Nights is an interfaith consortium of churches that open their hearts and church homes to the homeless for one week each beginning in November and ending in March or early April. Shelters are open 7 days a week from 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Shelters provide a cot and three nutritious meals (breakfast, dinner and a bag lunch) in a safe environment.

Safe Nights started in February 2008, and St. John Vianney was the first church to host two shelters that year. St. John Vianney continues to host a shelter each year during Thanksgiving week. When necessary, a second shelter week may be required. Signups are normally held a few weeks prior to the shelter week.

Volunteers are needed for the following tasks: Setup and Breakdown, Preparing Food, Serving Food, Overnight Monitor, Cleaner, Laundry, and Transportation of Supplies.

Donations of the following supplies are greatly appreciated: Personal-Sized Toiletries, Twin/Full-Size Sheets and Blankets, Towels and Wash Cloths, and Duffle Bags.

Monetary donations are appreciated and are tax deductible.  Safe Nights is a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation, and is funded entirely through donations.   Make checks payable to Safe Nights of Calvert County, Inc., P.O. 3707, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
