The sacrament of Confirmation extends to the Church of every time and place the gift of the Holy Spirit sent to the Apostles on Pentecost. Many signs accompanied the coming of the Spirit. But the most notable effect was the transformation of this frightened cowardly group of men into inspired and fearless witnesses to their Lord's resurrection and to his saving power. (Donald Cardinal Wuerl, The Gift of Faith, p. 236)
Confirmation confers to the baptized an incredible character, the seal of the Lord, and enriches them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit which conforms them more closely to Christ, binds them more perfectly to the Church, and gives them grace and strenght, as true witnesses of Christ, to spread the Lord's presence among others and to defend the faith by word and deed. (CCC, 1285)
The Sacrament of Confirmation is received by children in the eighth grade CCD Program, and adults in the RCIA Program.
