The celebration of the Holy Eucharist is the action of Christ and the People of God, and it is the center of the whole Christian life for the Church... as well as for each of the faithful individually. Furthermore, the other sacred actions and all activities of the Christian life are bound up with it, flow from it, and are ordered to it. (Sacramentum Concilium 10, 41, 102)
The Church celebrates the Paschal Mystery on the first day of the week, known as the Lord's Day, Sunday, which must be ranked as the first holyday of all. This follows a tradition handed down from the Apostles and has its origin in the day of Christ's resurrection. (General Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, 4)
The assembly of the faithful on Sunday is the most important of all parish activities.
